Background of the project
In 2014, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) passed a resolution in a meeting held on 2 July 2014, approving in principle the Ministry of Defense (Army) to proceed with the project of building a precious wood museum by asking the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office to set the annual expenditure budget for the Ministry of Defense (Army) as a disbursement unit for construction in the area of the Royal Thai Army Auditorium, Dusit District, Bangkok, with the size of 8 Rai. Later, His Majesty the King granted land in Wang Thonglang, Bangkok, another 36 Rai to be used in the museum's construction. Therefore, the Fine Arts Department had to adjust the designs and estimate new costs to suit the area size. After that, the Fine Arts Department completed the new design and evaluated the new costs, and the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office proposed to the Cabinet on 4 January 2022 to review and consider the agency responsible for proposing budgets for project implementation according to the Cabinet resolution on 30 April 2019, by suggesting the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) to responsible for proposing a budget for the museum's construction project from the fiscal year 2023 onwards, including the annual management and maintenance budget. On 11 January 2022, the Cabinet approved the budget for the museum construction project for 4,055,318,000 baht to be used for construction during the fiscal year 2023-2027, respectively.
